Embrace Your Eccentricities : Series Issue 2 – 30 second read

Kit and I enjoy a cool home. So cool that, one year I let Kit’s house indoor plants freeze.  In Little Rock, our poorly sealed house had a massive fireplace. Each winter morning I’d kindle a hot blaze. Kit and I would sit before it chatting, debating theology, and stepping around our cat, Joey, who claimed the most prominent spot. “We’d have done better in life if we didn’t enjoy doing this so much,” suggested Kit.

In Washington, our well-insulated house hovers in the mid-fifties during winter and occasionally dips into the forties. Getting older is an advantage if you like cold. My blood circulation isn’t as good as when younger.  I sometimes find myself chilly at 70 degrees. “Why not simply heat your house” some might ask.  Oh, no!  That would deprive me of the joy of experiencing warmth.  A cold environment is my eccentricity and I’m keeping it.

    • So happy you were able to enjoy our AR home. A real gift. We miss that fireplace. Drew enjoyed cutting wood for our fires. And giving wood away also. Yes, we are headed into winter and you are headed into summer. Enjoy the warmth. 🙂

I always prefer it cold as well! However, you are correct that as I age I’m not as tolerant as I once was.
